Next, verify that the folder is shared and accessible from other computers. (Note that the server does NOT need to run the server version of Windows, such as Windows Server 2022, 2019, or 2016, it can run any supported version of Windows, including Windows 11, 10, 8, and 7.) ![]() We refer to this computer as the server, to distinguish it from the clients, which are the computers accessing this shared folder over the network. To protect a shared folder or a shared drive with a password, first make sure you have installed Folder Guard on the computer where the folder is shared from. With Folder Guard, you can not only password-protect folders on a local drive, but also password-protect shared folders, or shared drives, to be unlocked for access from other computers on the LAN.
